One of the key features that differentiates the DC 27 from other vacuum cleaners is the auto height adjustment capabilities of the cleaner head. As you move between the different floor surfaces in your home the cleaner head adjusts the amount of clearance it gives, creating a tight seal throughout and removing even more dirt.
In addition, at 2.3 litres, the DC 27 has a larger bin capacity than most other models meaning that you’ll have to empty it less often. Of course the quick release, and the fact that it’s bag-less, mean you can empty the DC 27 straight into the bin with a minimum of hassle.
Whereas other vacuums suck dirt into a bag, leading it to become clogged, Dyson cleaners use centrifugal forces, several times stronger than the power of gravity, to suck air into the bin, with no loss of suction at any time.
As a result, the DC 27 supplies 255 air watts of power constantly, with no deviations during use.
This cleaning power can be brought to bear on all the surfaces. As well as the automatic height adjustment feature, there is a motorised brush head which can be turned on or off depending on whether you are working on hard surfaces or deep carpet.
The cleaning is so powerful that the air expelled by a Dyson is as much as 150 times cleaner than the air you would normally breathe. However, some have found that, because the DC27 expels air at ground level it can sometimes disturb latent dust behind the vacuum. Some tests suggest that the DC 27 works better on hard surfaces than carpets.
The 9.3m power cord allows you to get around most rooms with ease and the Quick Draw Telescopic Reach wand is extremely ease to extract and can be used to clean areas above head height as well your stairs.
The DC 27 also comes with a debris nozzle, which doubles up as a soft dusting brush, and a stair tool of Dyson’s own design, which can be attached to the hose to grant access into the crevices of your stairs.
Getting the DC 27 up the stairs can be a bit of a chore as it heavier than the average vacuum. It is also rather noisy, which can get quite annoying.
Dyson believe that the build quality of their vacuums is so high that there should be absolutely need for you to have to have any work done on your machine for at least half a decade from the date of purchase. For this reason the DC 27 comes with a free five year warranty covering the cost of any parts or labour needed to solve a problem with the machine, should one arise.
This is unlikely as, in the testing stage of development, Dyson put their products through a series of mechanised tests equating to about 10 years of standard usage.
As with other ‘Animal’ Dyson’s the DC27 Animal expands on the basic package by adding a mini turbine tool head with powerful bristles that provide excellent performance, especially when it comes to cleaning clinging pet hairs from deep carpets. As the attachments fits to the end of the hose it is easy to apply it to awkward areas, such as your car, and sofas.
In addition the ‘Animal’ comes with the HEPA filter, which is much better at retaining microscopic particles that aggravate allergies. If you have a particular problem with allergies the ‘Animal’ version may be worth considering, even if you don’t have pets, as the DC 27 is one of the few Dyson’s that does not come with a HEPA filter in the standard version.
